Freedom Summit -- "We heart F.C!"

I really enjoyed listening to everyone share their takeaways from Freedom Summit. I am proud of our small group for our great turn out at the conference, but more importantly that we were each able to respond and now have the attitude of "what can we do." A special shout out and thank you to Kellen for emailing me his very thorough write-up at 2am after SG :P

Here are a few points that resonated in our discussion:
  • We live comfortable lives, consumed with consuming, while others don't even have basic needs. We should not be wasteful in our spending but reevaluate how we can better use our money.
  • Surround ourselves with brothers and sisters who will encourage and support you to live by faith and not be luke warm.
  • Our lives should be notably different than that of a non-Christian. The reason we need to take action is because of Christ's love and what He did for us.
Here are the great ideas we came up with going forward. We will be doing some of these as a small group (ie: texas hold'em night, ebay party, etc.). But I encourage you as individuals or even in your huddle groups to try some of these and see where God leads.
  • texas hold'em night: represent organizations, build awareness, donate winnings
  • fasting
  • cut out a normal luxury item for the week and donate the money saved
  • pocket change campaign
  • donate money to a specific organization monthly
  • bring stories from the news to read at small group
  • create a list of fair trade companies and products
  • ebay party: delegate tasks, raise awareness on postings, donate money raised
  • fair trade Christmas gift exchange! :)
